Detection of object signatures in a configuration that could enable covert surveillance is demonstrated. Realization includes inductive coupling between an object and a primary magnetic field oscillating at a variable frequency. The atomic magnetometer rf resonance frequency is synchronously tuned with that of the primary field. The measurements include an option with constant operational frequency and the primary field spectrum having an arbitrary (e.g. a `white noise') frequency profile. Results of the measurements are also discussed in terms of stealth magnetic field communication.
