In recent years there has been considerable interest in the application of the principles of measurement science to chemistry. This has led to the recognition of `metrology in chemistry' as an area of relevance to analytical chemistry research. This review describes the benefits to chemistry of the implementation of the principles of measurement science and explains how they are able to improve the reliability and accuracy of chemical measurements.
