Abstract

This report follows on from NPL Report COEM 24 and describes the results of proof-of-principle experimental investigations into the use of four-wave mixing (FWM) to measure distributed dispersion in single mode optical fibres. The distributed dispersion investigation was successful in mapping the variation in chromatic dispersion along a 26 km length of fibre. Further work is ongoing to increase the accuracy of this measurement through improved data analysis.
