Abstract

This report is a summary of the main results from the 2018 NMS lab’s customer survey that was conducted by Winning Moves. Every few years, NPL, NML at LGC and NEL work together to commission a joint survey of their customers, to assess the extent to which the public funding provided by BEIS is converted into economic or societal benefits. The customer survey is a quantitative survey designed to capture the impact the core labs create for their customers, understand customer’s use of the labs, and capture satisfaction. This report goes beyond this to measure the economic importance of private sector users, and quantify spending on measurement. The sample of users includes those working in the private sector, of which a number of these are calibration laboratories, and users and partners in the healthcare sector and academia.
The NMS lab’s customer survey is a core requirement of the NMS evaluation plan. This summary was written by staff at NPL in collaboration with NML and NEL.
