Abstract

The spectrum averaged cross section (SACS) for the production of 117mSn from natSn was measured at the National Physical Laboratory. A 252Cf radionuclide source was used to activate the tin sample. This sample was dissolved and sealed in a 5 mL ISO ampoule, using radiochemistry techniques. The activity was then measured in standard gamma-spectrometry measurement geometry using a shielded HPGe detector.

MCNP simulations were performed to determine the neutron spectrum incident on the sample. Using this in conjunction with evaluated data libraries the SACS can be calculated and compared to the experimental result.
