Accurate and reliable measurements are essential in the traditional sectors, such as manufacturing and mining, and to facilitate trade (nationally and internationally), but also for human health and safety, protection of the environment, communications, and in all areas of science and engineering innovation. Emerging quantum technologies pose new measurement challenges, but also offer previously unknown measurement solutions. National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) are playing a leading role in this fast evolving world.
