Measurement Challenges in the Hydrogen Sector Report.pdf - Published Version Download (5MB) | Preview |
Abstract
As industries throughout the UK seek to decarbonise, hydrogen is set to increase as a vector throughout the energy supply chain. The urgency to find cost-effective, scalable and efficient methods to deploy hydrogen infrastructure is dependent on solving measurement challenges that can act as a bottleneck, or obstacle to the progress of a hydrogen economy.
This report showcases analysis by the UK’s National Physical Laboratory (NPL) into the challenges faced by the UK hydrogen industry. The conclusions in this report were based on surveys, in-depth interviews and an industry workshop held at NPL.
This report investigated challenges at the heart of the production, storage, distribution, metering & monitoring, and end use of hydrogen. These processes then had their challenges compared in terms of priority for the hydrogen economy and the urgency needed towards 2030. The identified challenges will be showcased in the presentation, their reasoning, and the capabilities being developed at NPL to support in their solution.
