Abstract

The results of the sixth in a series of environmental radioactivity intercomparison exercises are reported. In general, results have been achieved which are comparable to those obtained in earlier exercises. Analyses of actinides (in an aqueous matrix) have shown some improvements although measurements of f3-ernitting and y-ernitting radionuclides (also in aqueous matrices) were only marginally better than in recent years. Measurements of -ernitters in milk proved more problematic, with a greater proportion of discrepant results being in evidence than for the aqueous sample, which had the same radionuclidic composition. Some laboratories are still quoting uncertainties which are lower than the corresponding NPL value.
