Abstract

Optimising the structural characteristics of a porous tissue scaffold to maximise its performance for tissue engineering applications is a significant and time consuming challenge. In this paper we report a simple, yet effective, method for changing the permeability and porosity of porous tubular scaffolds manufactured from poly(caprolactone) through controlled exposure to gamma radiation.

This work also demonstrates that performance measures such as permeability can be more sensitive to changes in structure than SEM images.
