The performance of a 10 mm diameter pyroelectric detector coated with a single wall carbon nanotube (SWCNT) coating was evaluated in the 0.8 µm to 20 µm wavelength range. The relative spectral responsivity of this detector exhibits significant fluctuations over the wavelength range examined. Information on the structure of the SWCNTs which make up the coating can be extracted from the fluctuations in the relative spectral responsivity of the detector. However, the non-uniform spectral responsivity is expected to severely restrict the use of SWCNTs over multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as black coatings for thermal detectors.
