Abstract
In this project the U-value of seventy-eight window systems were calculated by the Centre for Window and Cladding Technology using the procedures specified in BS EN ISO 10077-1, BS EN ISO 10077-2 and BS EN 673 standards and the U-value of twelve of those window systems have been measured by the National Physical Laboratory using the procedures specified in BS EN ISO 12567-1. The window systems included five types of frame, three types of glazing unit and six types of spacer bar. The improvement to the overall U-value resulting from the use of the high performance spacer bars is reported and the linear thermal transmittance ( ) and frame U-value (Uf) values are also given. The measured values are shown to largely support the calculated U-values and some reasons for the observed differences are explored.
