Measurements have been performed to determine the stability of the wavelength calibration with temperature for four designs of optical spectrum analyser. The effect of temperature on the storage-to-operation performance over (-10 to 50) C, adhering to GR-2952-CORE where possible, has also been investigated for one of these instruments. The results indicate that, following a change in the environment temperature, the instruments may exhibit hysteresis and that the calibration will continue to drift for several hours. This effect can be compensated by the use of an absolute optical frequency standard, such as an acetylene absorption cell.
