Traceable measurements of high optical powers is now an important issue in many fibre optic applications. This paper describes the methodologies developed at NPL that are required to realise traceable measurements for power levels up to +35 dBm. Rsults of the calibration of the accuracy of a commercial power meter are presented. Uncertainties of ± 2.0% for the absolute spectral response and ± 1.6% for linearity of response have been achieved.
