Abstract

The results of NPL’s seventh Environmental Radioactivity Intercomparison Exercise are reported. The level of metrological performance was similar to that observed in the previous exercise. The inclusion of a ß / -emmitting sample at the 1-5 Bq kg-1 level revealed problems with the identification and measurement of 85Sr. An increasing number of laboratories are making corrections for cascade summing.
Although there was some evidence to suggest underestimation of Type B uncertainties, nearly all quoted overall uncertainties exceeded the corresponding NPL values.
