Abstract
In order to calibrate the fission chamber monitors and activation systems within the Joint European Torus, JET, two compact deuterium-tritium neutron generators were acquired. Prior to their deployment in JET they were brought to NPL for determination of the neutron emission. Measurements were performed with a precision long counter to determine the angle dependence of the emission on an absolute scale, and with activation foils to derive the total emission rate into 4π steradian. Agreement between the long counter values and the mean activation results for the total emission rates of the two generators was within the assigned uncertainties of 3% to 4%. This was for both the emission rate per monitor count, based on a diamond monitor detector attached to the neutron generator, or for the total emission rate although this latter quantity varied with time.
