Abstract

This report gives the experimental details of the Wall Guarded Hot Box (WGHB) measurements, carried out by NPL, on four glazed calibration panels, two made by NPL, one by EMPA and one by IFT. These measurements were carried out as part of SM&T Project 3032. The report also outlines the principles of the draft CEN standard procedures for measuring the U-value of windows and window components in a hot box. It gives details of the construction method used to make the glazed calibration panels (required by those standards) and describes how the thermal conductances of these panels were calculated. Details of the calculations carried out to derive the total surface resistance, surround panel heat transfer coefficient and convective fractions are given. Finally the graphs of those properties, which are required to derive subsequent U-values of window systems from hot box measurements, are included.
