1/f noise caused by microscopic two-level systems (TLS) is known to be very detrimental to the performance of superconducting quantum devices. The nature of these TLS is still poorly understood and experiments with superconducting resonators have also shown the so called standard tunnelling model (STM) for TLS to be too simplistic. These new results has stimulated the development of new models which extends the STM by taking the interaction between TLS into account. Here we discuss the validity of these models in light of available data.
