Abstract

Primary measurement standards for sound in air are realised by the reciprocity calibration of laboratory standard microphones. The laboratory standard microphone has an exposed diaphragm and is designed for precise coupling to small cavities. For everyday measurements a working standard microphone (a measurement microphone with a protection grid) is preferred because it is more robust and less expensive. Metrology laboratories are therefore presented with the problem of calibrating the working standard microphones by comparing them with laboratory standard microphones. A previous report has proposed methods for IEC type WS2 microphones, this report extends those methods to type WS3 microphones.
