Abstract

A coupled model has been developed and used to calculate the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) in nickel based superalloys and bond-coat layers of a NiCoCrAlY type as a function of temperature. The model takes into account the phases present within the material and their elastic properties in order to calculate the CTE of the alloys. The measured CTEs from superalloys IN-738LC and CMSX-4 and the bond coat Amdry 995 are used to compare with output by the model. Very good agreement was found for the cases considered between the model and experimental data. Additionally, the experimental results and the output of the model developed in this work have been compared with the predictions by a number of other models which also take phase structure details into consideration.
