Abstract

This report summarises the results of DOE Research Contract 39/3/279. The U-values and surface temperatures of eight window systems measured in the NPL wall guarded hot box using the procedures specified in prEN 12412-1 are compared with those calculated and simulated by CWCT using the procedures specified in prEN 10077 parts 1 and 2 respectively. Additional simulations were carried out of selected frame sections using the THERM Software. The agreement between the measured and simulated U-values are shown to be good but the agreement between the U-values calculated using the simplified procedures and those measured varied widely and were mainly, though not always, very conservative (significantly higher than measured). A number of recommendations are made to improve both parts 1 and 2 of prEN 10077 and guidelines for good measurement and simulation practice are given.
