Abstract

A stand-alone piece of software has been developed which records and processes the resonance spectrum produced when a rod is struck. The software uses a standard microphone and the sound-card of a normal computer. This cost effective software solution is tested against submicron hardmetal rods of circular cross section. Transverse as well as longitudinal resonance modes are included. The study shows the gains that can be achieved in quality control throughput, product integrity, wastage and time. Limitations on specimen size are presented
