Abstract

The design and parameters of the NPL Rb fountain frequency standard are described. Based on uncertainties of measured and calculated systematic frequency shifts, the fractional frequency accuracy of the standard is 3.7×10E-16. The measured
one-day frequency stability of the standard, limited mostly by noise in the local oscillator, is 7 × 10E-16. The results on precise measurement of the frequency of 87Rb ground hyperfine transition are presented. The prospects for improvement the accuracy
of the Rb standard to 6 × 10E-17, achievable in one day, are discussed.
