Abstract

This report details the results of an international comparison of the measurement of the Ni, As, Cd and Pb contents on air-sampled filters and in solutions containing NIST Standard Reference Material (SRM) 1648, using either Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) or Graphite Furnace-Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (GF-AAS) for analysis. NPL acted as the pilot laboratory for the comparison.
NPL’s results showed excellent comparability with those of the other two laboratories both for analysis of a NIST SRM 1648 solution and for analysis of filter cuts from a large air-sampled filter.
This project was funded by the COAM Science Strategy Budget with the aim of benchmarking NPL’s performance in a newly developed measurement capability by demonstrating comparability with established laboratories in Europe performing heavy metals analysis in ambient air.
