Abstract

It is widely accepted that there is a need for generic composite materials data suitable for materials selection and initial design. In the DTI funded programme Measurements for Materials Systems (MMS), work has been undertaken with the objective of producing a Standard Qualification Plan (SQP) aimed at increasing the amount and availability of traceable materials data, and reducing the costs involved with qualification of fibre-reinforced plastic composite materials.
In order to ascertain how the data generated by the SQP will be included in existing material databases, a survey of the current status of prominent material databases has been carried out and is detailed in this report. In addition, the progress that has been achieved through the SQP initiative is described and recommendations are provided as to the most appropriate format for release of the SQP generated data.
