The National Physical Laboratory (NPL), the UK's national metrology institute is responsible for developing and maintaining the UK's national measurement standards, and disseminating them through a wide range of measurement and calibration services. Since 1997, NPL has been involved in the design of a new laboratory building to replace all of the old stock of buildings, which will be demolished. The laboratories have been designed not only for the demanding metrology of today, but also with the flexibility to meet requirements of the decades to come.
