Abstract

Over twenty baseline hardmetals supplied by industry were characterised for their microstructure and mechanical properties. The measurements were used to validate methods for the measurement of WC grain size and mechanical properties of hardmetals. The mechanical properties included measurements of Palmqvist toughness. These tests were used to compare the toughness of a series of wide grained hardmetals with the baseline hardmetals.
