Abstract

The measurement procedures in BS EN ISO 12567-1:2000 require that the surround panel used to measure window U-vales in hot box apparatus must be calibrated by carrying out hot box measurements on two glazed calibration panels of different thickness, each at three different temperature conditions. This report describes measurement carried out with the NPL Wall Guarded Hot Box following these procedures, using the glazed calibration panels TT206 and TT207 mounted in the 150mm thick expanded polystyrene surround panel number 10. The results are presented exactly as shown in the standard. Results are also given of a measurement carried out of a 1.48 m high x 1.23 m wide PVCu window system that had been previously measured using a different surround panel calibrated with different glazed calibration panels. The difference between the U-values measured using the CEN procedures and by using a more simple method (which is described) was 0.5% and between the two CEN measurements made with different surround panels calibrated with different glazed calibration panels was better than 3.5%.
