Abstract
The efficient design of computer software for measurement systems is a common problem in many laboratories. Requirements vary from fully automated customer calibration systems to one-off type measurements. Usally the mesurement systems are composed of a range of instruments with different types of computer interfaces, some standard, some not. When requirements change even slightly, much code has to be rewritten which, under a quality system, can be a tedious process that is costly and time consuming. In this paper we discuss the development of a universal measurement program that is capable of controlling all the experiments in our laboratory. The program is based on the National Instruments graphical programming language LabView™.
