Abstract

The results of the ninth Environmental Radioactivity Comparison Exercise are reported. There continues to be a steady improvement in national metrological performance for many ß/ -emitting nuclides, but the exercise has highlighted problems with others. The reported data suggest that some analysts are still not making cascade summing corrections. Measurements of 238Pu and 239PU still exhibit a low bias, and the lack of data returned for many ß-emitting nuclides make it difficult to assess performance levels. NPL is to address some priority assay problems arising from these exercises in parallel with its next comparison in this series.
