Abstract
A novel calibration jig has been designed, built and used to initiate a new area of work at NPL concerned with the calibration of Fibre Bragg Grating sensors that are used as strain sensors in many applications. Individual fibres have been used in this work to develop a better understanding of the major metrology issues involved. The activity has led to the development of a potential new Studio project aimed at helping UK industry adopt this new technology by introducing standards and calibration services.
