Abstract

As part of the DTI funded project concerned with the determination of friction coefficients for use as input data for process control models, the issues concerning the estimation of uncertainty of measurement have been addressed. Estimates are presented for the measurement uncertainty for three methods used for the determination of interfacial friction namely a) the Cockcroft - Male Ring Test, b) the NPL Big Friction Rig and c) the NPL Pin-on-Disc Rig.
