Abstract

A comparison of measurements of 24.5 keY neutron fluence was organised by Section III (Neutron Measurements) of the Comite Consultatif pour Rayonnements Ionisantes (CCRI). The exercise involved the circulation to six laboratories of a set of three Bonner spheres for calibration in fields with energies around 25 ke V. The fields were produced using a total of four different methods of neutron production.
The responses of the individual spheres, per unit of neutron fluence, were determined by the participating laboratories. To derive the 24.5 keY sensitivities, it was necessary to make corrections for spectral effects employing response functions produced using the code MCNP. The results were submitted to the author for analysis and comparison. The results demonstrate good consistency within the estimated uncertainties (between about 5% and 10% at 95% confidence level) between the results reported by all establishments.
