Abstract

The precise location of the centre of mass of an object can be determined using a simple ‘weighbridge’. The weighbridge technique in conjunction with a well characterised calibration artefact has been applied to the centre of mass determination of a gravitational sensor proof mass. The measurements and the resulting uncertainty budget demonstrate that a standard uncertainty of less than 10 µm in the determination of the centre of mass position is possible.
