Abstract

The important role of the mises en pratique, or practical realisations of the definition of units, in the International System of Units (SI) is often overlooked. This short letter explains their significance and, with reference in particular to the mise en pratique for definition of the mole, the historical evolution of, and recent update to, the document. The features and changes that are significant and of interest for the chemical metrology community in the most recent version are discussed in more detail.
