Abstract

We present some initial results obtained at the beginning of our EU NMP FP7 funded four year project, NanoMag. The NanoMag project objectives are to improve and redefine existing analyzing methods and to develop new analyzing methods for magnetic nanostructures. The results reported in this paper come from one of the first work packages in the project where we define the analysis methods we are going to use and further study in the project. To help this we have measured on three different nanoparticle systems, both multi-core and single-core in nature, in the size range from 20 nm to 80 nm. Some complementary analysis methods were carried out at two-three different labs; these results will be compared. The results in this paper focus on determining the particle size ¿ both the hydrodynamic size and the individual magnetic core size. These results are compared between the used analysis methods, transmission electron microscopy, static and dynamic magnetization measurements, and Mössbauer spectroscopy.
