Abstract

This report describes in detail the work carried out under Joint Industrial Project 2004_23, entitled "Industrial trialling of a novel sensor providing objective measurements of the effectiveness of high power ultrasonic equipment". It describes in detail the design, manufacture and testing of the cavitation sensors, and of new detection electronics to analyse the sensor signals and provide near real-time information to users.
It also includes details of an industrial trialling exercise carried out by three UK organisations, in which they used the developed sensors and signal processing electronics to assess the cavitation activity produced by their systems. This provided a critical analysis of the sensor-electronics systems, and also provided collaborators from the UK high power ultrasound community with the opportunity to test the novel technology, and compare it to existing cavitation assessment techniques.
